HARTHILL COOKERY SCHOOL AND BARBECUE TERRACE

Nestled alongside Peckforton hills in the Cheshire countryside our cookery school is set in a restored Victorian village school providing a unique and tranquil place for you to enjoy. We offer over 40 different courses delivered by myself and our team of friendly tutors, Mary keeps us all in order and is the glue that holds everything together.

If you are looking for cookery course, bake off, barbecue, wood fired or fire pit cooking session in the North West you’ll find us 20 minutes from Chester, North Wales, Shropshire and Staffordshire and just an hour’s drive from Liverpool and Manchester. Come cook with us.

Pie's 'n' Pud's. 12th May. 10am - 2pm

Get to grips with pastry making as you handcraft your own pie & seasonal pudding.

We love a good pie here at Harthill. A proper pie that is, one with a top AND a bottom of crisp buttery pastry; add in a pudding and you’ve got one of our most popular courses.

You'll make: Creamy chicken and asparagus pie with a plump summer pudding & berry sauce.

Shovel steak social evening. 16th May. 7pm - 9pm

Time to pull up a log sit by the open fire, heat your shovel & get cooking!

We’ll talk you through the cooking of a perfect steak and how to test the degree of cooking. Then it’s time to heat up your shovel, sizzle your steak to your liking then as it rests load up your plate with Boston beans, salads and ‘slaw.

Introduction to Bread and Pizza. 19th May. 2pm - 6pm

Time to relax as you sift, knead, shape, stretch and top your way to some hand crafted treats.

The aromas of freshly baked bread and a good slice of tangy cheese topped pizza scattered with aromatic herbs is hard to resist. You’ll get to know the basic ingredients and how they work together to make beautiful dough.

You’ll get to understand how you may damage your dough and the key stages in making, resting, moulding and finishing your ferments. Best of all you’ll have your own fresh bread to take away with you along with a hand stretched pizza.

Wood burning oven. 23rd May. 6pm - 9pm

Learn how to light, heat, control & cook in our wood burning oven.

On this three hour session you’ll be shown how to light the oven through to enjoying your own wood fired pizza in the Cheshire countryside. You will learn about fuel, building up and retaining heat plus controlling and positioning the fire.

As the heat builds in the oven we’ll head into the kitchen where you make your pizza dough by hand and Chef will take you through some knife skills as we make the toppings. Back at the oven we’ll push back & position the fire, cook and eat a chicken fajita before stretching out your dough, topping your pizza and sliding it into the oven alongside the blazing logs. There are still a few more tips and techniques to go through as you watch your pizza come to life and bake to perfection.
